Beckham Speaks

Here's another one of our favorite World Cup links, past and present, this time from the ever-entertaining lads at Adidas. It’s a weird one, but has some of our favorite things in it -- Star Wars, Daft Punk and David Beckham. And Beckham has -- for once -- all his clothes on, but sports a cute wee beard. And speaks -- and though he only says two words (“wasn’t me”) it reveals that God has a sense of justice after all: he created the most beautiful man on earth, gave him heavenly soccer skills and a body to die for… and a rather squeaky high voice. Not that it makes him less amazing to look at, but we feel a little better knowing that he’s human.

David Beckham Designs for Adidas

Given a) all the attention he pays to his personal style and b) all the time he spends in underwear in front of camera, perhaps it was simply a matter of time before David Beckham started designing his own duds. While he hasn't gone the way of his better half and launched his own line, he did team up with Undefeated sneaker boutique owner James Bond to create a new line for Adidas Originals by Adidas. The collection comes from a philosophy of updated American sportswear in materials like leather, cashmere and silk. Shoes, accessories and thermal layering pieces will also be included. But, while the silhouette is so obviously David Beckham -- fitted on top, baggy on bottom -- don't expect to see him modeling or promoting the line himself. Lamentable, indeed.

David Beckham stars in the new Adidas Original ad campaign. It's the brands first ad campaign in over 60 years and will also star Missy Elliot and Russell Simmons. But with Becks in the picture, who can concentrate on them? [USA Today]

A few talking points from Karl Lagerfeld's sit down with BBC: He's optimistic about the economy ("I see it like a cleaning up -- it was too rotten anyway -- so it had to be cleaned up"), thinks luxury goods are still worth it ("It's great to see things you may not buy -- because you don't have the money -- but it is very ugly to think they shouldn't exist because you can not buy them"), and asserts fur is more than fine ("In a meat-eating world, wearing leather for shoes and even clothes and handbags, the discussion of fur is childish"). John Galliano has been appointed a chevalier of the French Legion of Honor. A fashion designer gets an honor in the military? Now that's progress. [WWD]

Marc Jacob's is doing some shuffling in NYC's West Village. Pay close attention: the Bank Street collection store has now been turned into a Marc Jacobs men's store, and the MJ kid's store across the street will house MJ men's accessories.  The kid's store is moving to the former MJ men's space on Bleecker Street, and the higher-end collection is being consolidated into the original Mercer Street space in Soho. Quickies: Adidas' new line, Uggs for men and more

Adidas to roll out new line, SLVR. Said to be a cross between Adidas Originals and Y-3, SLVR is "contemporary, modern and savvy, with a timeless design perfect for today’s consumers seeking a minimalist look." [DNR]

Ugg boots are taking a sharp aim at men. Once synonymous with the masculine man (back before they started pimping themselves to starlets and schlumpy college coeds), the brand is hoping to bring the association back with a strong campaign towards male shoppers. First up: launching an Ugg in Covent Garden that will be attended by Chelsea soccer players, who apparently give the boot their stamp of approval. [NZ Herald]

How has Anna Wintour (pictured) been taking the cutbacks at Conde Nast? One eye-witness said when letting staffers know about the fate of Men's Vogue, she shed tears. They were probably acidic tears that would eat away your hand, but tears nonetheless. [MediaBistro]

Bravo announced five (Yes! Five!) new fashion related reality shows. With all this new competition, we might as well just quit our jobs now. [Variety]

The NY Times captures the It bag for men in Paris: the leather carryall. Homos everywhere toss aside their Jack Spade canvas messengers and head straight for something a little more butch...almost. [NY Times]

Text-obsessed Londoners have apparently run into so many lamp posts while sending a message to their mates that the city has installed pads on many lamp posts. Well, this is the same city that thought giving pubs 24-hour drinking licenses would curb binge drinking and alcohol-related violence. What will they do to stop the walking-while-chewing-gum injuries? [Engadget]

Does Baby Phat designer Kimora Lee Simmons demand that someone stand beside her at all times during personal appearances to refill her champagne when her glass is less than one inch full? The NY Post thinks so. And come on, us size queens could always use a few more inches. [NY Post]

Lagerfeld in the Big Smoke; Stella Hearts Kangaroos; Prada Parties with The Hours; Cavalli Delivers Celebrities

Karl Lagerfeld announces plans to show Chanel's pre-fall collection in the Big Smoke this December—that's London, folks. Bring an umbrella and a warm coat. [WWD]

Animal rights champion and vegetarian designer Stella McCartney denies rumors that her "Stella McCartney for Adidas" line uses kangaroo leather to make shoes. The adorable marsupials are safe from smelling like sweaty feet. [Fashion Week Daily]

Prada will celebrate New York Fashion Week in usual fashion: With a big party in its flagship store on Sept. 7th with The Hours and LCD Soundsystem providing music. And Damien Hirst, who lent his design talents to Levi's Warhol Factory X line of denim, has provided a few interior design touches, as well. Roberto Cavalli is celebrating the opening of his Just Cavalli boutique in Manhattan during fashion week with a party (also on Sept 7th).
