June 07, 2010Beckham Speaks
Here's another one of our favorite World Cup links, past and present, this time from the ever-entertaining lads at Adidas. It’s a weird one, but has some of our favorite things in it -- Star Wars, Daft Punk and David Beckham. And Beckham has -- for once -- all his clothes on, but sports a cute wee beard. And speaks -- and though he only says two words
(“wasn’t me”) it reveals that God has a sense of justice after all: he created the most beautiful man on earth, gave him heavenly soccer skills and a body to die for… and a rather squeaky high voice. Not that it makes him less amazing to look at, but we feel a little better knowing that he’s human.

What are you going to do with the next 69 seconds of your life? Why, you're going to watch this gratuitous Aussiebum PSA about banana-fiber underwear, of course. It's underwear! Made from bananas! Worn by the hot men who lug bananas through jungles, winking all the way. In Australia! Or something. Who cares. You're welcome. Seems unlikely, but crazier things have happened over there. [Newsweek] Lady Gaga's video for Bad Romance is going to be a cut above. She's apparently using lots of razor blades. And when designer after designer risks career over pride at a dastardly futile attempt with denim as upper body wear, we tend to groan in agony. But, after Robert Geller's Levi lookbook, our groans blossomed into excitement instigated intelligible exclamations of joy. If the parka (above middle) wasn't paired with the other denim wear photos, would you believe me when I told you it was made from denim? Each detail, from the shape and size of the collar -- the starched elevated collar on the denim vest above evolves the look from trailer to chic -- to the color and cut composes this wearable and modernized denim collection. But of course what you pair each collection with makes the largest difference. Be sure to be on the lookout for the Robert Geller collection next month in Bloomingdales.

The designer has featured Franz Ferdinand and Cheap Trick in past, but apparently decided that the group of cool old grizzlies would be a better fit for his safari-themed ads.

Sexual provocation with none other than a bear? Hm, I wonder what all the fuss is about? But, bear in mind Diesel's history for palpably sexual and queer advertisements (although, of course, suggestive bestiality in the literal context crosses the line of common decency). We all know that this bear is the representation of Bears in the gay subculture but nice try -- nubile boys and Bears usually don't mix. Will the shock of this ad compel some to drop cash at the nearest Diesel? That remains to be seen. -- Francis Bea
