Obama bedazzled on his big night

He's publicly claimed that he's already decided what he'll wear on inauguration night (a Hart Schaffner Marx tux), but that didn't stop a slew of menswear designers from weighing in on how they'd dress Obama for the big night.

Styles range from the most formal of formal with coat tails from Rag & Bone to a double breasted number with an open collared shirt and no tie. While they're all well and good and amp up Obama's style in exactly the fresh, modern way required for a young President, we have our favorite: the sparkled dinner jacket from Richard James Savile Row. It's such a stuffy affair, the inauguration. Let's see some pizzazz! Some wow! Anything sequined for God's sake!

Simon Doonan (pictured, feeling up Donatella Versace), quite possibly the most fabulous window dresser ever, except for Hollywood in the Mannequin films, will see his own life portrayed on the small screen. His memoir, Nasty: My Family and Other Glamorous Varmints, will be turned into a comedy series for BBC2 in the UK by the producer behind Ab Fab, Little Britain and The Office. And don't forget to pick up Doonan's new book Eccentric Glamour, which hits stores April 8th. [WWD]

Pranking Politicians in Style

Radar reports that the outgoing evil mastermind Karl Rove (thank the lord he's leaving) fell victim to a not-so-vicious prank of vandalism. Well, his Jaguar fell victim anyway. It appears, that while Rove took a little sea cruise with the President, someone wrapped his car in plastic wrap, mounted two stuffed  eagles on the trunk, stuck an "I Love Obama" sticker on the windshield and covered a few windows in fluorescent sticky notes.

Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?

Stylewise, I must point out the brilliant use of sticky notes in what looks like fluorescent shades of yellow, pink and blue, colors that are so de rigeur since the '80s are back in a huge way this season. The eagles give a "pro-eagle" kind of animal rights statement that Stella McCartney would approve. And while the cellophane is reminiscent of Miu Miu's sheer womens wear for Fall, I think the bandits should have chosen to wrap the car in Damien Hirst's skull wallpaper, Burberry's iconic check or at least a few hundred Hillary '08 stickers. At least that would block out the light, which I hear vampires don't like so much.

Mike Huckabee: the Other Man From Hope

How's this for steely resolve? In 2003, then-Arkansas Republican governor Mike Huckabee, a little porky and more than a little diabetic, went on a diet and dropped 110 pounds. No bariatric surgery, no Trimspa, just good old-fashioned exercise and a healthy diet, under the advisement of a doctor.

Now Huckabee hopes the same guts and gumption can carry him all the way to the White House. Hey, Bill Clinton was also an Arkansas Governor (born in Hope), and virtually unknown, not long before being elected.

On the plus side, Huckabee's been rated one of America's best governors (Time Magazine), and started programs to help Arkansans slim down (he even wrote a book, Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork). His advice to Americans includes not watching TV while you eat dinner.

Now the downside: he got an anti-gay marriage amendment passed in Arkansas, supports teaching creationism, and sometimes wears an American flag guitar strap. Mitt Romney: Dressed Strongly

The first in an occasional series of profiles of the Presidential candidates. They say Washington is Hollywood for ugly people. We want to know why these men and woman want to live there!

Some fun facts about Mitt Romney:

His first name is actually Willard. Mitt is his middle name.

He speaks fluent French. He did his mormon missionary year in France when he was 19.

During that time he took once-weekly showers at the public baths.

His father was born in Mexico. The Romneys had moved there because polygamy was illegal in the United States.

He was for gay rights before he was against 'em.

Romney's style

Mitt Romney is most comfortable in a suit and tie. His ties are all red or blue, usually in a conservative pattern. A former businessman, Romney always wears suits that are well-tailored and never, ever looks like a shlub.

He's perfectly at ease in a tux. Romney will probably never be invited to the Academy Awards, but if he is elected, you can expect the first couple to dress something like this at the inaugural ball.

This is what we call Presidential Candidate Smart-Casual. Almost all of them do it. Khakis, dark blazer, shirt without a tie. Romney's favorite accessory is his wife, Anne.

At some point, every candidate must prove he can dress like a cowboy. Here Mitt is showing former Attorney General John Ashcroft around Olympic venues at Salt Lake City. The hat says "tough guy", the fleece says "I prefer a garment with strong wicking."
