We still miss Florent, the 24-hour bistro run by the brilliant Florent Morellet, featured in the 2008 Out 100, where it wasn't unusual to see supermodels and trans-hookers mingling in the early hours over a few glasses of wine and Florent's much-missed French onion soup.
HIV positive Morellet, who kept score of his T-Count cell on a board above the register, is currently working on plans for a new 24-hour Florent in 2011, but in the meantime fans and foodies can bide their time by watching David Sigal's new documentary, Florent: Queen of the Meat Market, which debuts at the New York City Food Film Festival June 23-27. Tickets available here.

What's this? Yet another fashion-meets-film venture? There's no guy running around in underwear (Mr. McQueen) or a creepy 11-year old shelling YSL, but Jonathan Kelsey's teaser trailer for his film, "High," does have bloody noses and, naturally, puffs of smoke! The full film debuts today. Cue munchies?
There is nothing more that we love than a fierce fashion diva. Some people may think that we are referring to some waifish barely 18-year-old model with cigarette ash for brains, but they'd be wrong. And "it" girls? What does that even mean? No, we are referring to working gals who live for fashion. Case in point? The internationally feared and respected Anna Wintour.
Filmmaker R.J. Cutler must have read our mind since he filmed a documentary about the making of US Vogue's September 2007 issue. In the immortal words of Rachel Zoe, we die. This is just too good to be true. The film, aptly named The September Issue, premiered at Sundance last month and has been picked up for distribution and will debut in theaters in (you guessed it!) September this year.
The only thing we can think of that would be better than Meryl Streep channeling the polarizing EIC is watching the real thing in action. We're already sharpening our nails to get ready for this doc which we hope will feature as many cat fights as it does catwalks.
We were as giddy as fairies when we read Shana's write up and Popnography blog post about Tom Gustafson's delightful new gay movie musical, Were the World Mine. Centering around a bullied gay high school teen who, in rehearsals for his all-boy school's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, concocts a magic potion that he uses to turn not only his unrequited love but the whole town gay, it's a fantasy straight from our in-the-closet teenage years that we were happy to get lost in. And the story wasn't the only thing that made us swoon -- lead Tanner Cohen, who plays the outcasted Timothy, is a tall drink of what we can only assume is delicious water.
Having finally seen the movie, we immediately fell in love with Tanner's big beautiful eyes, his voice and, most importantly, his wardrobe! Beyond the scenes of sexy daydreams that have boys covered in glitter and wearing lamé shorts, the way he punks up his school uniform with pale skinny jeans, dirty Converse sneakers and a disheveled cardigan under his blazer is the queer take on the Gossip Girl look we keep waiting to see on the CW. And when he's not at school, we've hardly seen any young hottie who can rock a hooded sweatshirt and an I ♥ NY shirt -- all while shaking his thang to Mika no less -- like Cohen.
Were the World Mine is enjoying a limited release after a slew of good reviews and awards on the festival circuit. If you're looking for your chance to see Cohen and his merry-band of 'mos, click here for release dates.
