July 24, 2009Quickies: Christiano + Starbucks (?), New CFDA members, Anna's fete a film, +Christian Siriano is partnering with Starbucks for God knows what. They're pretty tight-lipped about the whole ordeal, which is either good or very bad news. [The Cut] The CFDA just announced 31 new members, including Alexander Wang, The Olsen Twins and Chris Benz. [WWD] Anna Wintour is hosting the premiere of the Vogue documentary, The September Issue, on August 19th in the Hamptons. What a guest list that will be. [FWD] With their clothing labels now sent to pasture, what's a designer to do now? [The Cut] Any New Yorker who loves (as you should) Richard Haine's sketch-book blog What I Saw Today should stop by his exhibit opening tomorrow night. He'll be "live drawing" guest from 4 to 6 and there will be a party to follow. [What I Saw Today]

NSFW!) to promote it. Saturday's event was the birthday party to end all birthday parties and certainly didn't disappoint. Billed as a "rock and roll circus," the happening took place in a monstrous tent constructed on Brooklyn's Pier 3, and, though Britney was a no show, the night definitely still had its highlights: > 5,000 guests were invited; 7,000 showed up, so you can imagine the mayhem at the entrance. Not surprisingly, a few do-you-know-who-I-am?'s were overheard, but as is usually the case, security didn't know who they were and furthermore, couldn't have cared less. > Once (or rather if) one made it inside, the venue was modeled after -- surprise, surprise -- a circus, complete with fire breathers, acrobats dangling from the ceilings, and a bevy of scantily clad dancers. > Performers included Chaka Khan (yes, she sang "I'm Every Woman"), T.I., and Franz Ferdinand. Crowd favorite M.I.A. was also on hand. The obviously pregnant singer -- in a cute striped mini dress and leather jacket -- only did a quick few numbers and then scurried backstage. Thankfully N.E.R.D. (pictured) was ready to pick up where she left off, keeping the crowd riled up for the rest of the night. - While thousands of 21+ party goers couldn't make it in, 17-year-old Emma Watson (AKA Hermione from the Harry Potter films) was breezing around backstage in a sparkly gold dress. She even cut loose on stage during N.E.R.D.'s final number. - Other celebs seen drinking free booze and eating cotton candy in the VIP area included Lindsay Lohan, Helena Christensen, Bryan Greenberg, Rhys Coiro and famed gay porn star Erik Rhodes, all sporting Diesel denim of course. The new Kris Van Assche ad campaign is popping up, and it's squeaky clean. Shot in Los Angeles laundromats and inspired by his runway show set, 12 different layouts (see one at left) will appear in 12 different magazine worldwide. [Towleroad] A popular British fashion television program, The Clothes Show, has banned skinny male models from appearing. An alarming 67% rise in anorexia among men over the past five years "has been attributed to the fashion industry's increasing preference for very slender male models," said managing director Gavin Brown Gavin. Who doesn't like some meat on their men? [Daily Mail] Topman's redesigned website launched last night, adding more frills and more labels. American dollars are still being accepted, so buy up what you can before our greenbacks go belly up. Aside from the party itself, we wonder if Marc showed up in the skirt he wore for his runway bow after the show. What was he thinking? "It's about the joy of dressing up." Well played, Mr. Jacobs. [Material Interest] Rumors are still flying that Thakoon started almost an hour late because of Kanye West (at left), but Thakoon Panichgal himself claims it was because of late models. I understand you have to maintain the respect of your celebrity clientèle, but the fact that there are about, oh, 200 witnesses from the show that watched Kanye waltz in 57 minutes late seems to quash pretty much any excuse. [WWD] and [The Cut] Maria Sharapova, who's been gallivanting around Fashion Week, is buddying up with Cole Haan to create casual sportswear looks for the label, 40 for women and 30 for men. Sharapova for men might seem odd at first, but, remember, she can grunt on the court with the best double XY's, so she might have something strong to offer. The Italian Association for Defense of Animals and the Environment has launched an online petition appealing to Pope Benedict XVI, as an animal lover, to stop wearing robes trimmed with ermine. > Artist Ryan McGinley's animalistic Wrangler ads: Banned in the US for appearing to glorify the murder and rape of young women, but still seen all over Europe (and online). Hit the art scene! Stylish celebrities, art connoisseurs, and supermodels converged at Serge Strosberg's Soho loft for boozing and shmoozing while toasting to Stosberg's first show in New York, "Paris—New York," during The Armory Show, The International Fair for New Art. The show featured pieces from Strosberg's latest work "Sins of Paris," in which a fashion victim portrays each of the seven deadly sins. The highlight of the opening was the piece “Annabel and Giselle,” an oil painting of socialite and actress Annabel Vartanian, and transgender model Giselle. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the sale of the painting will go to GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis).
